FOOD LITERACY AND MINDFUL EATING: A STRATEGY FOR NUTRITIONAL EDUCATION"
Abstract
This study explores the role of nutrition education and mindful eating in the prevention of eating disorders from a lifelong learning perspective, in which the development of food-related competencies is understood as a continuous and ongoing process throughout the entire lifespan. In a context characterized by the widespread availability of ultra-processed foods, unbalanced dietary patterns, and the growing influence of socio-cultural and media factors on eating behaviors, it becomes essential to promote effective educational strategies aimed at improving both diet quality and individuals’ relationship with food. Therefore, mindful eating may be considered an integrated educational approach that combines nutritional knowledge with food awareness and appears particularly effective in fostering psychophysical well-being and in reducing the risk factors associated with the major eating-related disorders during childhood and adolescence.
